2022 Social Media Trends Every Business Should Know

Social media is an ever-changing landscape. That's why when it comes to social media management, it's vital that your brand stays consistently up-to-date on the latest trends. You might ask yourself, "Why is this necessary?" There's a multitude of reasons, so let's get into that first!


Social media trends can affect every aspect of your strategy, from hashtags to reels to posting schedules and more. For example, in January of 2022, Instagram banned new hashtags. Hashtags like #bikinibody and #boho were recently banned. The reasoning may not always be known, but if you were unaware of changes such as this and still used banned hashtags, your content would be blocked, the account shadow-banned, and therefore it would greatly hinder your growth. Staying on top of the most trending music and sounds will also impact your Instagram Reels. Using sounds such as these will give your content a higher chance to be seen, go viral, and more.


So, what are some of the trends that you, as a business owner or company, should be aware of? Let's get into it!


The first biggest trend, as we have already mentioned, is the recently banned hashtags. You can find a list of the banned hashtags here. Avoiding these will leave your account in good standings under Instagram's Community Guidelines and thus, not hinder the further growth of your account and brand!


A second trend we would like to discuss is the recently added story link. This is an Instagram stories sticker that allows you to link directly to your stories any links you may like to add (namely, it should be your website). This is great in helping to drive traffic directly from your Instagram account to your landing page, blog posts, product posts, etc. It comes in a variety of color schemes, and we've found it to be extremely useful.


Third, Reels are still reigning! Sorry, IGTV. Reels will boost your engagement like no other. They are also a great way to advertise your products or services, show the faces behind the company, and build a community online. Reels are fairly simple to make and yield great results. Don't forget to track trends like music to optimize your Reels!


The last trend we'd like to discuss here is Cause Marketing on Instagram. This is a relatively new feature, and you might have noticed this before. You can add fundraisers to your bios and posts alike, driving awareness for whatever your cause may be. But, don't forget, this too will drive awareness to your brand as you continue to use it.
